Diethyl phthalate, widely used in cosmetic fragrances -Diethyl phthalate is associated with obesity and insulin resistance in men, and phthalates in general are linked to hormone toxicity

Many people have chemical allergies, yet synthetic fragrances continue being poured into grooming products. The David Suzuki Foundation says fragrance mixtures can contain up to 3,000 chemicals. One of these alarming ingredients is Diethyl phthalate, widely used in cosmetic fragrances to make scents linger.

Diethyl phthalate is associated with obesity and insulin resistance in men, and phthalates in general are linked to hormone toxicity. This means they can reduce sperm count, and produce reproductive defects in male fetuses if a mother is exposed during pregnancy.

Good personal care alternatives can be found in health food stores. Natural fragrances are much more subtle than chemical ones, and you can even blend essential oils to come up with your own signature scent. Natural scents tend to be concentrated, so apply lightly.
