The video runs 13:03 (min:sec), and it first aired on CBS 60 Minutes in August 2004. China is rising, becoming an economic superpower, and some predict that the Chinese economy will surpass America's by 2025. But some of that success can be attributed to theft. 80% of the world's counterfeiting market originates in China. This video features the counterfeiting of Callaway Golf Clubs, but almost every other product is being counterfeited, from watches and shoes to prunes and baby formula. Since the airing of the video, dog food and toothpaste from China have been found to be contaminated. Most of Matel Toys have been recalled for various reasons; some toys were painted with lead-based paint, which could be harmful to small children. These recent incidents are not directly related to counterfeiting, but they do show a tendency in China to "cut corners" in order to keep Chinese-produced goods inexpensive to sell to the rest of the world.
